Purpose of this column: To complete moving-out, moving-in, or relocation notifications at the city office within the deadline and ensure a smooth start to life
Key Points to Note
- Deadline: Submit moving-in notification within 14 days of starting life at the new address (for moves within the same city, submit a relocation notification).
- Moving to another municipality: Submit moving-out notification at the old address → moving-in notification at the new address.
- Online exception: With a My Number Card, you can submit an online moving-out (special moving-out) at the old address. At the new address, present the card + PIN code.
- Who must apply: Mid-to-long-term residents with a Residence Card must file notifications.
A)From Another Prefecture → Nagoya (Nagoya as New Address)
- Submit moving-out notification at old address (at the counter or via My Number Portal) — receive paper certificate (not required with online exception).
- Move (start new life in Nagoya).
- Submit moving-in notification at Nagoya ward office — within 14 days.
Required documents: Residence Card (with new address on back), moving-out certificate, My Number Card, passport, family documents.
Additional if needed: National Health Insurance registration/change, child allowance, My Number Card address update (PIN required).
B)Nagoya → Another Prefecture
- Submit moving-out notification at Nagoya ward office (must be done before leaving for another prefecture).
- Submit moving-in notification at new municipality (within 14 days.)
C)Moving Within Nagoya City (e.g., different ward)
・Submit relocation notification at new ward office within 14 days.
